About the Role:

Peptide chemistry leader, contributing to the design, synthesis and characterization of novel peptides and peptide conjugates to discover next-generation peptide-based therapeutics. Responsible for delivering novel peptide compounds identified within the company R&D roadmap.

Your Contributions (include, bit are not limited to):
  • Design, synthesize and characterize peptides, small proteins and chemically modified analogs using state-of-the-art synthesis, bioconjugation, purification, analytical and biophysical techniques.

  • Lead peptide chemistry and teams towards agreed upon goals, ultimately working towards clinical candidate peptide nomination

  • Independent data-driven optimization of peptide SAR

  • Effectively communicate scientific rationale, results and interpretation at project, team and departmental meetings, contributing to strategic discussions

  • Actively collaborate and share expertise with colleagues

  • Builds and enhances internal and external professional relationships

  • Aid in recruiting of peptide group scientists

  • Provides training and/or supervision to junior staff, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • BS/BA degree in chemistry or closely related field and 5+ years of experience OR

  • MS/MA degree in chemistry or closely related field and 3+ years of similar experience OR

  • PhD or equivalent in chemistry or closely related field and some relevant experience;

  • Proficient in all aspects of modern peptide synthesis, bioconjugation, purification and analysis; capable of immediate independent laboratory work on solid- and solution-phase chemistry

  • Strong publication record of accomplishment

  • Strong understanding of peptide structure and associated biophysical techniques to assess peptide structure, stability and behavior in solution

  • Experience in bioconjugation, time-extension and formulation strategies for peptides

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication abilities

  • Demonstration of cross-functional understanding related to drug development

  • Assimilates data and research findings outside of Neurocrine for application to new scientific projects

  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrated ability working with / recommending a variety of laboratory equipment/tools

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team effectively

  • Exhibits leadership skill and ability, and provide mentorship to junior team members

  • Excellent computer, communications, problem-solving, and analytical thinking skills

  • Sees broader picture, impact on multiple programs, teams and/or departments

  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines across a variety of projects/programs, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $106,400.00-$154,325.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 20% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
