Job Description

We are seeking a Controls Systems Engineer to join our federal team based out of Naval Base San Diego, CA. (32nd Street Naval Station). This Controls Systems Engineer will get the unique opportunity to support various government and military sites located in and around San Diego CA. Duties may include pre-design site survey, designing control system shop drawing submittals, programming controller sequence of operations, executing control system startup & commissioning, integration of 3rd party systems , creating user interface graphics, developing energy savings strategies, training the customer, and generating project documents such as as-built drawings.

Pay Range: $88,200-$152,500

A

As a Control Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and maintains the relationship throughout the duration of the Facility Services Contract. Satisfies customer needs and expectations through a partnering approach regarding customer energy and operational issues.
  • Designs and configures complex software building control systems as defined by the contract documents. Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
  • Configures and programs HVAC building automation and control systems (Direct Digital Controls) and creates controller sequence of operations.
  • Develops and tests complex software programs necessary to operate the system per project requirements and specifications.
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting to ensure proper operation of the building control system.
  • Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades as directed to ensure proper operation.
  • Maximize energy efficiencies through effective application of Metasys programming, alarm management, and proper use of diagnostic tools to troubleshoot equipment failure.
  • Provide the required level of operations & maintenance (O&M) support to ensure that energy savings continue to be realized and that mission critical building environments are created and maintained.
  • Review and recommend retro-commissioning (R-Cx) agent suggested DDC and mechanical system changes, based on the validity of having an energy savings impact to the facility and while not impairing mission.
  • Supports the customer with performing pre-design site survey, designing control system shop drawing submittals, and generating product literature submittals.
  • Review drawings and equipment schedules for submittal packages then communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, field installation team and subcontractors.
  • Provides field change information to the project team for as-built drawings (typically in Visio/CAD) and software.
  • Keeps management and customer informed of job statuses and issues.
  • Assists in performing site-specific training for owner/operator on the total building control system.
  • Participates in release meeting with project field team. Performs value engineering to provide cost effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Adheres to all safety standards. Holds a high degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety.
  • Familiar with and adheres to quality control (QC) standards and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience working with Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, preferably with programming, configuration, visualization, and integrations. 5+ yearsa experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystems
  • Experience working with Metasys and Johnson Controls Legacy product line, preferred.
  • Experience working with/for DoD customers and on DoD sites, preferred.
  • Proficiency and experience working with pre-sales engineering support (cost estimating, sales support, performing pre-design site surveys, designing control system, shop drawing submittals, generating product literature submittals, design packages and submittals, etc)
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly with computer-related drafting tools. AutoCAD and/or Visio experience preferred.
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required security clearances for projects being supported (background/character, criminal history, DMV record, employment, and credit checks)
  • Integration experience with low voltage building sub-systems using various industry protocols (i.e., LON, BACnet, Modbus, etc.)
  • Proficiency creating SCT databases, custom programs, schedules, trends, alarms, and programming modules.

Preferred Education:

  • Bacheloras degree in engineering, Computer Science or related field, a vocational school four year program certificate, or an Associateas Degree in Electronics, Mechanical Systems, Computer Technology, HVAC/R, or a similar field
